The main characters of By Chance (Slučajno) run into each other after many years with no contact. An afternoon of conversation and long walks will take them back to the past and a time they shared long ago. Tanja Golić, the director of this 40-minute long medium-length film, explores the way relationships work through these two characters’ reuniting. Kundera mentions in Laughable Loves: “Man passes through the present with his eyes blindfolded. He is permitted merely to sense and guess at what he is actually experiencing. Only later when the cloth is untied can he glance at the past and find out what he has experienced and what meaning it has had.” Sometimes it’s too late to take off the blindfold and then, what remains?
This Croatian medium-length film pays homage to the architecture and industry of Zagreb, as well becoming a small tribute to the architecture of human relations.
